If you need a little inspiration to get up early and hit the Rochester public market this Saturday, a little run-down of my trip last weekend might just do the trick.
Here’s what I was able to pick up:
- Huge bag of three heads of different lettuce - $2.50 (We typically can make salads all week with this as it’s so fresh)
(Wegman’s price for 3 heads of lettuce $1.89x3=$5.67)
- Two acorn squash (~3 lbs) - $1.00
(Wegman’s price: $.99/lb for 3 lbs= $2.97)
- One Sugar Pumpkin - $1.50
(Unsure of Wegmans price)
- Six Honey Crisp Apples (~3 lbs) - $1.00
(Wegman’s price: $.99/lb for 3lbs = $2.97)
Total Savings over Wegman’s prices: At least $7.12
If you still need convincing take a look at the apple fritter that we bought for $1.50 from a local baker’s stall. It was literally the size of my head and absolutely delicious.

I plan to make pumpkin puree out of my pumpkin for baked goods tomorrow and I’ll let you know how it goes!
